On March 16, 1984, a Louisiana dad named Gary Plauché fatally shot the man who kidnapped and raped his young son — and the whole thing was captured on live TV

The kidnapper, a man named Jeff Doucet, had just been arrested in California after bringing 11-year-old Jody Plauché there and repeatedly violating him. Then he was sent back to Louisiana to stand trial. As he was being escorted by law enforcement through the airport, Doucet expected to face justice in a courtroom. But instead, he faced justice at the hands of his victim's father — who shot him in the head with a .38 revolver while TV cameras were rolling. When Gary's police officer friend was forced to arrest him right there on the spot, he asked, "Why, Gary, why’d you do it?" Then Gary replied, "If somebody did it to your kid, you'd do it, too."
